Crusty Italian Bread
 Old world style bread to serve with any meal, makes 2 loaves.

  • 1 ⅓ cups water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 ⅔ cups white flour
  • 1 tsp yeast, bread machine or instant (1 1/4 at low altitude)
  • 2 tbsp cracked wheat or sesame seeds (optional)

Measure ingredients into bread machine pan, select basic cycle to raise but not cook. Additional white flour and rise time may be needed. Remove from pan, divide the dough in half, and form each half into a 10 by 4 by 2 inch loaf slightly flattened on top. Cover and let rise for about an hour until dough has doubled in size, add several diagonal cuts with a lame knife. Preheat oven to 375 ℉ and bake bread for 20-25 minutes until loaves are browning and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom. Remove from pan, place on a cooling rack, and dust with flour.
